Infection Control Challenges


Infection Control Departments are often seen as a non revenue-generating department and not as a cost saving opportunity. Infection Control Professionals' time and resources are stretched to the maximum with no relief in sight. Many of the Healthcare facilities across North America are often below the recommended number of full time employee per bed count and in many cases are asked to handle additional responsibilities. Some refer to the responsibility of the Infection Control Professional as the Healthcare Detective, but the 'crime' is not always reported and the 'witnesses' are not always cooperative.

In today's Healthcare environment accreditation bodies and Provincial and State Governing bodies are putting more demands on the Infection Control Professional. Not only are the Infection Control Departments responsible for keeping their facilities in compliance (with regards to Infection Control Standards) but also will have to be able to produce HAI data to Provincial and State bodies.
